Celine Dion is widely regarded as one of the world’s best singers, and many have attempted to imitate her without success. However, in a video featuring a 10-year-old Filipino boy named Peter Rosalita, we witness one of the closest renditions to her style, regardless of age.
During his audition for America’s Got Talent, Peter performs “All By Myself,” a song popularized by Celine in her 1996 version. Originally written and performed by Eric Carmen in 1975, the track reached #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Interestingly, it’s based on the second movement (Adagio sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s circa 1900–1901 Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Opus 18.
Setting aside these historical details, we see a pre-teen boy tackling this monumental song with astonishing skill. Peter’s performance begins softly and gradually builds to incredible heights. By the time he finishes, all four judges are on their feet, and Simon declares, “That was an incredible audition. There were parts during that audition which literally gave me goosebumps! You have an amazing voice, an amazing personality, and amazing energy.”
