Ansley Burns, a 12-year-old South Carolina girl, astonished the judges on *America’s Got Talent* with her stirring rendition of a classic Aretha Franklin song.
The seventh-grader, who frequently sings in her school choir, decided to perform Franklin’s “Think” in a teaser for Tuesday’s show.
Simon Cowell, the head judge, interrupted her midway through her performance because he thought the backing track didn’t fit her voice.
Ansley was first uneasy when Simon recommended her try singing the song a cappella instead.
Simon was gracious enough to bring her a cup of water, and with the judges’ and audience’s encouragement, she plucked up the bravery to sing without music.
The judges were astounded by her solo performance, and Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union stood and applauded.
Since then, the video has received millions of views on YouTube, with many complimenting Ansley’s singing prowess, tenacity, and endearing nature.
Simon’s choice, according to many viewers, enhanced her performance and let her voice really shine.
