Masuku did not allow negativity to break his spirit, even though he had previously been discouraged from pursuing opera. His history includes prominent roles in major productions including “Carmen” at the London Coliseum and Crabman in “Porgy and Bess” in Argentina.
He has received support from The Tillet Trust fund and a Merit prize from the 2019 SAMRO competition for his talent.
All four judges gave Masuku great marks for his performance of Lucio Dalla’s “Caruso” during his audition. He was praised as “by far the best opera singer we have ever had on this show” by Amanda Holden, who was clearly moved by his performance. This is a noteworthy accolade, especially in light of previous performers like Paul Potts and Susan Boyle.
Masuku did not get a Golden Buzzer, though, which would have guaranteed him a spot in the semi-finals, despite his outstanding performance. Fans expressed their disappointment and discussions about this choice on social media, with many believing that he was unjustly passed up.
